No. 5 Notre Dame Opens Home Slate Against Rice on NBC Broadcast

Fifth-ranked Notre Dame will host Rice on Saturday, Sept. 12, with kickoff set for 3:30 p.m. ET at Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend, Indiana. The venue holds 77,622 fans.

The game will air nationally on NBC, with streaming available through Peacock, the direct-to-consumer platform operated by Comcast (NASDAQ: CMCSA). Comcast shares closed at $26.49 recently, down 0.64% from the prior close of $26.66, valuing the company at roughly $94.4 billion. NBC’s college football package remains a key piece of the company’s Media segment, and Notre Dame home games are among the network’s most consistent fall draws.

Radio coverage will be carried on WSBT (960 AM, 96.1 FM) and WNSN (101.5).

Both teams enter at 1-0. Notre Dame is coming off a win over Wisconsin in which its running game found traction after a slow first half. Sportsbooks list Notre Dame as a 44.5-point favorite, one of the largest spreads on the Week 2 board.

The Irish hold a 5-0 lead in the all-time series. The most recent meeting came on Aug. 30, 2014, when Notre Dame posted a 48-17 victory in South Bend.

What to watch

  • Whether Notre Dame’s ground game, effective in the second half against Wisconsin, carries over into conference-adjacent play.
  • Viewership figures for the NBC/Peacock broadcast, a recurring data point for Comcast’s sports media strategy during the college football season.
  • Line movement heading into Saturday, with the opening spread set at 44.5 points.
  • Upcoming Comcast earnings reports, which will detail Peacock subscriber trends during the football calendar.
