Brennan Sprints to Fourth Vuelta Stage Win as Grand Tour Debut Keeps Delivering

Britain’s Matthew Brennan underlined his breakout 2026 Vuelta a España on Tuesday, taking his fourth stage victory of the race with a bunch sprint win in Palos de la Frontera. The 21-year-old Team Visma Lease-a-Bike rider crossed the line in 3hrs 56mins 33secs, edging France’s Bryan Coquard of Cofidis and Belgium’s Vito Braet of Lotto Intermarché, who were credited with the same time.

Brennan celebrated by holding up four fingers — one for each stage win in what is his first Grand Tour. “It’s unbelievable, four victories here and the plan was for one,” he said after the 181km stage.

The stage had been tipped as a sprinters’ opportunity, and it largely followed the script. A five-man breakaway went clear early, but the peloton began to close the gap with around 100km remaining and made the catch with roughly 23km to go, setting up the mass finish. Wout van Aert, Brennan’s Visma teammate, was sixth on the stage.

Overall race picture

There was no change at the top of the general classification. Spain’s Enric Mas of Movistar holds a lead of 2mins 06secs over Austria’s Felix Gall of Decathlon CMA CGM, with Slovenia’s Primoz Roglic of Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe a further four seconds back in third. American Sepp Kuss, also of Visma, sits tenth at 8mins 55secs.

Wednesday’s 185km route from Dos Hermanas to Seville offers another profile suited to a sprint finish, giving Brennan and his rivals a further chance to add stage honours before the race turns to more selective terrain.

Beyond the peloton, interest in the sports industry continued to focus on the connected fitness segment, where Peloton Interactive saw shares fall 6.59% to $5.03 from a previous close of $5.39, leaving the leisure company with a market capitalisation of roughly $2.37 billion.
