Cardinals Close Out West Coast Trip in San Francisco with McGreevy Facing Webb

The St. Louis Cardinals open a three-game set against the San Francisco Giants on Monday night, their final stop on a west coast road swing. First pitch at Oracle Park is set for 7:10 p.m. Central time.

Right-hander Michael McGreevy gets the start for St. Louis. The Giants counter with one of their staff anchors, right-hander Logan Webb, setting up a classic young-arm-versus-established-ace dynamic for the series opener.

Manager Oliver Marmol’s lineup features a heavy dose of the club’s younger positional core, with switch-hitter Leo Bernal serving as designated hitter and batting fifth. Here is the full Monday order:

  • Bryan Torres (L) — 2B
  • Iván Herrera (R) — C
  • Alec Burleson (L) — 1B
  • Jordan Walker (R) — RF
  • Leo Bernal (S) — DH
  • Nolan Gorman (L) — 3B
  • Joshua Báez (R) — LF
  • Thomas Saggese (R) — SS
  • Nathan Church (L) — CF

The game will be carried nationally on NBC and its streaming platform Peacock, both properties of Comcast Corporation. Comcast’s media arm has remained a significant player in sports rights distribution, and the broadcast offers the company another showcase for its Peacock streaming strategy, which has increasingly bundled live sporting events alongside its on-demand catalog. In Monday trading, Comcast shares were changing hands at $26.49, down about 0.64% from a prior close of $26.66, giving the company a market capitalization of roughly $94.4 billion.

For the Cardinals, the series represents a chance to close the trip on a positive note before heading home, and the lineup composition suggests the club continues to evaluate its emerging talent in big-league action. Facing Webb, one of the National League’s most durable starters, will be a stiff test for a batting order built around hitters like Torres, Bernal, Báez, and Church who are still establishing themselves at the highest level.

What to watch

  • Whether the Cardinals’ young core — Bernal, Báez, Torres, and Church — builds on recent playing time
  • The remainder of the Cardinals’ schedule as the road trip concludes and the club returns home
  • Peacock’s continued rollout of exclusive and national MLB broadcasts on Comcast’s platform
