Duke football places 13 former Blue Devils on NFL opening-day rosters

Duke football’s NFL pipeline keeps widening. Thirteen former Blue Devils will begin the 2026 season on active 53-man rosters, the latest sign that the program’s recent rise under the ACC championship banner is translating into professional opportunities.

The 2026 draft class came almost entirely from last season’s conference title-winning squad, which produced three draft selections. Another eight signed as undrafted free agents and two picked up minicamp invites. Three members of that incoming group — Wesley Williams with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Chandler Rivers with the Baltimore Ravens and Aaron Hall with the Carolina Panthers — survived final cuts to claim active roster jobs.

Not every rookie landed on an active roster. Brian Parker II (Cincinnati Bengals) and Justin Pickett (Las Vegas Raiders) begin the year on the reserve/injured list with return designations, while Anderson Castle signed with the Indianapolis Colts’ practice squad.

The most prominent Blue Devil remains quarterback Daniel Jones, who returns to Indianapolis for a second season after injuries derailed what had been shaping up as the best year of his career. The Colts opened 8-2 with Jones starting and were positioned as the AFC South favorite before the injury losses piled up.

Jones is one of four Duke alumni projected into starting roles this season. Green Bay Packers right guard Jacob Monk, Buccaneers long snapper Evan Deckers and Jets long snapper Thomas Hennessy round out that group.

Cincinnati holds the largest collection of former Blue Devils with four: Joe Giles-Harris, Shaka Heyward and Jordan Moore on the practice squad, plus Parker on injured reserve. Elsewhere, the full list of Duke-affiliated players includes Josh Blackwell (Bears), Jake Bobo (Seahawks, injured reserve/designated for return), DeWayne Carter (Bills), Michael Carter II (Eagles), Castle (Colts practice squad), Deckers, Victor Dimukeje (49ers), Giles-Harris, Noah Gray (Chiefs), Hall, Hennessy, Heyward, Jones, Monk, Moore, Parker, Pickett, Rivers, Chris Rumph II (Saints) and Williams.

Duke’s growing draft footprint underscores a broader commercial backdrop for the sports economy, where talent pipelines feed fan engagement, licensing and apparel demand across publicly traded names in the sector — from media rights holders to equipment and footwear companies such as Deckers Outdoor Corporation (NYSE: DECK), whose shares closed at $82.87, down 3.19% from the prior close of $85.60, valuing the footwear maker at roughly $11.5 billion.

• Whether Jones sustains his early-2025 form over a full season in Indianapolis.
