Titleist Balls, Spider Putters and the 7-Wood: What Actually Won on Tour in 2026

Titleist Balls, Spider Putters and the 7-Wood: What Actually Won on Tour in 2026

An equipment study from MyGolfSpy spanning 38 PGA Tour victories this season suggests that while no club configuration guarantees a win, the gear choices of champions are far from random. Three patterns stand out — and they carry implications for manufacturers, most notably Acushnet Holdings Corp., whose Titleist brand dominates the ball count.

Ball dominance consolidates around Titleist

The season opened with scattered wins for Bridgestone, TaylorMade, and Srixon, but the market consolidated rapidly. Twenty-six of the 38 winning bags contained a Titleist ball — nearly 70 percent of all winners. Within that total, the Pro V1x family led with 16 wins, while 10 winners used a Pro V1 variant. Notably, some top players stuck with older generations: Wyndham Clark won with a 2019 Pro V1x and Viktor Hovland with a 2021 Pro V1, underscoring how entrenched the franchise has become on Tour.

For Acushnet, whose golf equipment business is centered on the Titleist segment, Tour usage of this magnitude functions as both marketing validation and a demand signal across its consumer base. The company’s shares changed hands at $86.88 on Monday, up 0.33 percent from the prior close of $86.59, valuing the leisure-sector company at roughly $5.07 billion.

Spider putters and the rise of the 7-wood

On the greens, TaylorMade’s Spider family appeared in 13 of the 38 winning bags, used by the likes of Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, and Collin Morikawa, along with Chris Gotterup and Michael Thorbjornsen. Winners spread across the Spider Tour X, Spider Tour, and Spider Tour V models, but the underlying head design remained constant.

The long game produced the most striking shift: twelve winners carried a 7-wood, against just four with a conventional hybrid. TaylorMade accounted for eight of the twelve 7-wood wins — seven with the Qi4D model plus J.J. Spaun’s Qi10. Scheffler, Justin Rose, and Spaun all won with the club in the bag, and Alex Fitzpatrick carried both a 7-wood and a 9-wood. The data points to a broader preference for launch and forgiveness over traditional hybrid setups.

Retail ripple effects

MyGolfSpy frames the findings as evidence that equipment consistency, rather than novelty, is narrowing the gap between average and winning play. A ball market settled around a single standard and a putter design with outsized Tour representation tend to filter down into consumer purchasing, shaping what appears — and moves — at retail in subsequent seasons.

What to watch

  • Whether Titleist’s roughly 70 percent winner share holds as the 2026 season progresses, or Bridgestone, TaylorMade, and Srixon regain ground.
  • Acushnet’s upcoming quarterly results and any commentary on Titleist ball demand and Pro V1 franchise sales.
  • Whether the 7-wood trend expands beyond TaylorMade’s Qi4D and Qi10 models to other manufacturers’ lineups.
  • Retail sell-through data on Spider putter models following the season’s Tour visibility.
