Ravens coordinator Declan Doyle says Baltimore’s offense still has plenty in reserve ahead of Week 1

First-year offensive coordinator Declan Doyle believes the Baltimore Ravens enter the regular season with a rare asset: an offense opponents have barely seen. As Baltimore prepares to open its season Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts, Doyle told reporters Wednesday that the unit he has built from scratch this offseason contains concepts and wrinkles that never surfaced publicly during training camp or the preseason.

“Anytime that you’re a new staff or you’re a new play-caller, you have the advantage of the element of surprise a little bit,” Doyle said, per the team’s transcript of his press availability. While he acknowledged that some preseason tape of the Ravens exists, he emphasized that “we feel like we have quite a bit that we haven’t shown.”

The uncertainty extends beyond scheme to identity. offseason discussion in Baltimore has focused on Lamar Jackson operating in a new system, along with increased use of under-center concepts. Players have described an attack built on physicality, detail, and explosiveness, but the full picture remains hidden from opposing defensive staffs who have spent months preparing.

Doyle also discouraged opponents from projecting past stops onto his playbook. Though he has coached in Chicago and Denver, he framed the Baltimore scheme as its own creation. “This offense is the 2026 Baltimore Ravens — that’s what it is,” he said. “It’s not any one thing from the past, but yes, certainly, having less tape is always a good thing.”

Indianapolis can study Baltimore’s personnel and the systems Doyle has worked in previously, yet the coordinator’s comments suggest the finished product will diverge from anything on film. Of course, mystery only goes so far — the Ravens must still execute once the game begins Sunday.
