USA Claims Mixed Relay Gold as World Athletics Ultimate Championship Wraps in Budapest

The United States took gold in the mixed 4x100m relay to close out the 2026 World Athletics Ultimate Championship, a three-day event held Sept. 11-13 in Budapest, Hungary. The American squad crossed in 39.64 seconds, holding off Jamaica by 0.08 seconds.

Jamaica finished second at 39.72, while Great Britain rounded out the podium in 40.26. Canada placed fourth at 40.34, followed by Spain (40.65), Germany (40.85), host nation Hungary (41.21), and the Netherlands (41.31).

Media spotlight on Budapest

The championship was carried live in the United States on NBC Sports and Peacock, continuing Comcast’s push to position itself as a hub for premier athletics coverage ahead of future global events. NBC’s broadcast group published extensive preview and viewing-guide coverage in the run-up to the meet, underscoring the scale of audience interest in international track and field.

For Comcast Corporation (CMCSA), the meet adds to a calendar of live sports properties that span its Media segment, which houses NBC Sports, and its streaming platform Peacock. Shares of the Philadelphia-based media and telecom company closed at $25.29, up 0.96% from a prior close of $25.05, valuing the company at roughly $92.53 billion. Comcast operates across Residential Connectivity & Platforms, Business Services Connectivity, Media, Studios, and Theme Parks segments within the Communication Services sector.

Live sports rights have become an increasingly central piece of streaming strategy across the media industry, and athletics championships — particularly in an Olympic window — draw broad national audiences that streamers have aggressively pursued. The Budapest event, staged over a compact three-day format, offered NBC Sports a focused programming block with marquee relay events like the mixed 4x100m as centerpiece moments.
