New documentary charts Daniel Suarez’s emotional return to NASCAR’s Mexico City debut

A new one-hour documentary following NASCAR Cup Series driver Fox Sports personality subject Daniel Suarez has premiered, chronicling the Mexican driver’s homecoming for the series’ landmark race weekend in Mexico City earlier this year.

The film, produced by NASCAR Studios in collaboration with Wilmer Valderrama’s WV Alternative and FOX Sports, debuted on FOX Sports 1 on Thursday, September 17, timed to National Hispanic Heritage Month. It will become available on Tubi TV starting Saturday, October 17, across U.S., Mexico and Latin American markets, with encore airings on FS1 — including slots at 11pm EST on Friday, September 18, and 8am EST on Saturday, September 19, plus additional replays in the following days.

The documentary centers on June 2025, when the NASCAR Cup Series and the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series (formerly Xfinity) competed at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez — the Cup Series’ first international points event since 1958. Suarez entered both races and described a weekend of dramatic swings between triumph and disappointment.

For Fox Corporation, whose stock traded at $64.98 on Thursday, up 0.17% from its previous close of $64.87, the project reflects an ongoing push into original sports storytelling. “The most compelling sports stories are the ones that resonate far beyond the competition itself,” said Barry Nugent, Vice President of Development & Original Programming at FOX Sports, praising Suarez’s perseverance and the doors he has opened for the next generation of fans.

Suarez holds a singular place in NASCAR history: he remains the only foreign-born driver to win a national series championship, and the only international competitor to win races in all three national divisions. The film traces his climb through the racing ranks, his move to the United States as an aspiring driver, and his decision to become an American citizen in 2024 — a journey it examines alongside tensions stemming from U.S.-Mexico political friction over immigration policy.

The documentary also revisits his 2026 Coca-Cola 600 victory, contrasting it with his heartbreak in the same event a year earlier.

“Coming back to Mexico and racing in front of my home country was something I had dreamed about for a long time,” Suarez said ahead of the premiere, adding that the weekend’s emotions — the pressure, his family’s support, and the weight of his journey — made it one of the most meaningful moments of his life.
