49ers Lose Demarcus Robinson to Ankle Injury in Win Over Miami

San Francisco’s receiving corps took another hit on Sunday when veteran wideout Demarcus Robinson was carted off the field with an ankle injury during the first half of the team’s game against the Miami Dolphins in Santa Clara.

Robinson suffered the injury midway through the second quarter after securing a low throw over the middle for a 20-yard gain. He landed awkwardly and rolled the ankle without contact, hopping off the field in visible discomfort. Though he reached the sideline under his own power, he was eventually carted to the locker room. The team first listed him as questionable to return, then ruled him out shortly after intermission.

At the time of his exit, Robinson led the 49ers with three receptions for 35 yards. San Francisco’s offense didn’t slow down without him — quarterback Brock Purdy ran in a two-yard score just two plays later to extend the lead to 14-3.

The 31-year-old had opened the season on a strong note, recording 50 receiving yards and a touchdown on two catches in the club’s 27-7 victory over the Los Angeles Rams in Australia. He is playing out the final year of a two-year contract with the 49ers.

The extent of the ankle injury remains unclear, but Robinson is the newest addition to a lengthy list of ailing San Francisco pass-catchers. Rookie De’Zhaun Stribling, hurt in the same opener against the Rams, underwent surgery for a deltoid ligament sprain in his left ankle and is expected to miss roughly 10 weeks. Ricky Pearsall suffered a season-ending injury before the campaign began, and Christian Kirk remains on injured reserve while rehabbing a calf issue.

The 49ers still have depth for Purdy to work with. Tight end George Kittle is healthy, and newcomer Mike Evans turned in an impressive debut after signing with the franchise in the offseason. Still, an extended absence for Robinson would thin a position group already operating well below full strength.

The game itself was carried nationally, with Fox Corporation among the broadcasters covering the league this season. Fox’s shares (FOXA) closed at $64.45 on Friday, down 0.82% from the prior close of $64.98, giving the media company a market capitalization of roughly $26.85 billion.
