Action report from the bookmakers
Dallas Cowboys at Houston Texans
Thomas Gable, sportsbook director at The Borgata in Atlantic City:: "We opened Texans -1.5, total 47, now up to Texans -2.5. Early respected money was on Texans, early public money on Dallas at +2.5. Laying that short number was attractive for people with the Texans winless."
Joey Feazel, head NFL trader at Caesars Sportsbook: "Mostly Cowboys money right now. I anticipate that to carry through to Sunday. Texans haven’t shown that much positive so far, but market hasn’t budgeted too much in their futures, which is a little surprising since they’re 0-3. I don’t think it’s going to be a huge decision in this one. As with any Cowboys game, we’ll need it to stay under the total."
Jacksonville Jaguars at Cincinnati Bengals
Gable: "Bengals sitting -2.5, this really hasn’t moved from where we opened. Total up from 50 to 51. Pretty even betting at this point. Jaguars was our biggest decision last week against Patriots, laying the 3. We had a lot of New England money come in. Cincinnati when Joe Burrow is healthy will attract public money."
Feazel: "People on the Jaguars in this spot, which was a little surprising. People have bet on the Bengals every week. Need will be the under in this one. We’ll see who we’ll need on Sunday but at this point a Bengals need."
Los Angeles Rams at Philadelphia Eagles
Gable: "Rams opened as 2.5-point road favorites. It got to 2, even -1.5 on Monday during the day before Monday Night Football. After the game, we saw this number move to Rams -3. It’s been mostly Rams money, even here in Atlantic City. Eagles just looked horrible overall on Monday night. Couldn’t stop the run, offense got stuck in neutral."
Feazel: "No surprise here, even with Rams three-point favorites on the road, we’re seeing much more Rams money come in. Not many excuses that Eagles can have — Case Keenum just beat them and they were simply outplayed. A lot of sharp money came in on Sunday Night Football last week that moved the Rams-Broncos to pick-em, which did get home. We’ll see if that was anti-Rams money or pro-Broncos money. Seeing some over money in this one as well."
New England Patriots at Buffalo Bills
Gable: "Rough start for the Patriots. Bills opened -6.5, we’re still at -6.5. Bills very lucky to cover last weekend, and every week people have been jumping on Buffalo. No different here. Public is once again the Bills. If this game gets to 7, I don’t if it will last there."
Feazel:"All Bills action, as we’ve seen each week and will see as long as Josh Allen is on the field. For the Patriots, the sentiment last year was, ‘Are they that good?’ Dolphins and Patriots tied for lowest-scoring team in September."
Denver Broncos at San Francisco 49ers
Gable: "We opened at 49ers -3. Bounced back and forth a bit between -2.5 and -3, sitting -2.5 right now. Total has been driven up, now up to 48, up two points from where we opened it. A lot of over money has come in on those lower numbers."
Feazel: "So far two-way action for the most part, more action on the over. Think that’s due to Brock Purdy showing out [this season]. I anticipate two-way action, maybe a little bit more on the 49ers, especially because of how efficient the offense has been. Opened -2.5, and it’s now a strong -2.5, leaning towards that 3. Need will be on the under."
