Mahomes and Crosby have faced each other several times, making their matchup one of the main storylines heading into the game. Mahomes has viewed their battle as a fight for bragging rights between two competitors. Crosby has challenged Mahomes ahead of their upcoming matchup.
Rollins first discussed Maxx Crosby and the Raiders’ defensive mindset. He said, “motivator Maxx Crosby on the other side. This team feels like the Raiders of old, they want to come out and punch you in the mouth.” Crosby will have the responsibility of putting pressure on Mahomes as one of the Raiders’ key defensive players. Through three games, Crosby has recorded 5 total tackles, 3 solo tackles, 2 assisted tackles, 1.5 sacks, 1 pass defended, 1 forced fumble and 1 fumble recovery. The Raiders defense, led by Crosby, will now have to deal with Kansas City’s strong offense.
Rollins later shifted his focus to Mahomes and Kansas City’s attack. He also added that, “Patrick Mahomes looks like he’s almost 100% if not 100%, excited with Eric Bieniemy calling plays again. They look excited—I mean, this game has it all, man, and it’s for first place in this division.”
The Raiders won the most recent meeting between the teams, beating the Chiefs 14-12. Mahomes has helped Kansas City open the season with three straight victories. Through three games, he has thrown for 812 passing yards and seven touchdowns. His track record against Las Vegas adds another layer to the story. Mahomes has 36 passing touchdowns against Las Vegas, his most against any single opponent, along with 4,427 passing yards against the Raiders.
The Raiders also enter the game unbeaten after beating the Saints 35-27 despite trailing by 11 points. Crosby and the Raiders defense will now face Kansas City’s offense in another major test.
The game will be played October 4 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, with kickoff set for 4:25 p.m. ET. With both teams sitting at 3-0, one will move to 4-0 after the game while the other will suffer its first loss of the season. The division rivals enter Week 4 with matching records and first place on the line.
Offensive numbers show team strengths ahead of the matchup
The Chiefs enter Week 4 at 3-0 after beating Denver, Indianapolis and Miami. The Raiders have also remained unbeaten after wins over Miami Dolphins, the Los Angeles Chargers and New Orleans Saints. With both teams still undefeated, their offensive production will be an important part of the matchup.
The Chiefs are averaging 416.3 total yards and 29.3 points per game. The Raiders are averaging 311.7 total yards and 29.3 points. Kansas City is also averaging 263.0 passing yards per game, compared with 211.7 for Las Vegas. On the ground, the Chiefs are producing 153.3 rushing yards per game, while the Raiders are averaging 100.0.
For the Chiefs, Kenneth Walker III has 65 carries for 360 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns through three games. He has also added 11 receptions for 82 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns. Travis Kelce has 14 receptions for 231 receiving yards and two touchdowns. On the other side, the Raiders’ Kirk Cousins has thrown for 661 yards, nine touchdowns and three interceptions. Brock Bowers has 10 receptions for 116 yards and one touchdown.
Walker has been one of the Chiefs most productive offensive players through the first three games of the season. The running back recently discussed the importance of establishing a rhythm at his position. He said, “Yeah, definitely. At this position, you get a rhythm. I feel like when you get the rhythm, you’re able to play fast and be yourself. Also, the way we practice, it makes it much easier in the game.”
Walker said finding that rhythm allows him to play faster and be himself on the field. He also connected the way the Chiefs practice with making his responsibilities easier during games.
Several players remain on the Week 4 injury report, making availability an important factor ahead of kickoff.
The Chiefs and The Raiders both bring unbeaten records into Week 4, giving the matchup added importance. The Chiefs offense will be challenged by a defense led by Crosby. Seth Rollins’ comments reflect the anticipation surrounding one of Week 4’s most closely watched divisional matchups.
