The Cleveland Guardians host the Chicago White Sox in Game 1 of the American League Division Series on Saturday, Oct. 3, the opener in the best-of-five showdown between the AL Central rivals.
"It really has been crazy kind of the back and forth that we’ve had all year," White Sox manager Will Venable said of the Guardians. "So we’re excited about the opportunity to play these guys, but we know full well how challenging it is to beat them."
Cleveland won the division, finally chasing down Chicago in the final weeks of the season after the White Sox had led most of the way. The White Sox won the season series 7-6 but wound up finishing one game behind the Guardians and had to settle for a wild card spot, sweeping the Houston Astros to get to the ALDS.
Prior to the wild card series, the White Sox received a letter from noted fan Pope Leo XIV that invoked the "Almighty’s abundant blessings" upon the club that last won the World Series in 2005.
