Joe Mixon, who hasn’t played in an NFL game since January 2025, signed with the Seattle Seahawks on Monday, according to multiple reports.
Mixon, who rushed for 1,016 yards in his lone season with the Houston Texans in 2024, missed the entire 2025 season with a foot issue that Texans general manager Nick Caserio called a "medical condition." The running back wasn’t around much of last season, leading to wide speculation about the injury, but Caserio said in January, "He didn’t do anything off the field. It wasn’t like he was riding a snowmobile or anything like that. I would say it was more a medical condition or situation that just – it didn’t really improve as much as everyone would have hoped."
The Texans, who had signed Mixon to a three-year $27 million contract before the 2024 season, released him in March.
The defending Super Bowl champion Seahawks (3-1) are in need of a running back after placing rookie Jadarian Price on injured reserve Saturday.
Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer reported Sunday that Mixon would visit the Seahawks and the running back posted a photo of the Seahawks stadium on Instagram on Monday evening.
The 30-year-old Mixon had posted back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons with the Bengals and Texans before sitting out 2025.
Without Mixon, the Texans have had trouble establishing a run game. Woody Marks led Houston with 703 yards on the ground last season. The Texans went out and signed David Montgomery in free agency, but so far, the former Detroit Lions running back has rushed for just 127 yards in four games. Marks has 87 yards on 28 carries so far this season.
