Jets’ Geno Smith Did Not Hide His Frustration in Bold Callout After Week 4 Loss to Bears

October 5, 2026 · by SPW Pipeline

Geno Smith and the New York Jets have slipped after a strong start to their 2026 NFL season.

The former West Virginia Mountaineers star quarterback and his team suffered their third loss in a row on Sunday, falling prey to the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field in Chicago, 23-12.

New York opened the season with a 23-10 road win over the Tennessee Titans, but lost to the Green Bay Packers in Week 2 (20-17) at home via overtime and to the Detroit Lions in Week 3 (31-24) on the road.

The Jets still looked competitive in those losses, but not in this one versus the Bears.

New York generated just 157 total yards and gave up 492 to Tyson Bagent and company.

The Jets offense stalled several times, unable to sustain possessions. New York went only 0-for-7 on third downs. Chicago had 34 first downs to just seven by the visiting Jets.

“We’ve got to execute and do whatever we can to keep our defense off the field,” Smith said after the game, via the Associated Press (h/t ESPN).

“That’s a part of playing complementary football. I think we can do a lot better job in that area,” added the veteran signal-caller.

Chicago clearly did its work. Even without Caleb Williams and Bagent finishing without a passing or rushing score, the Bears dominated on both ends of the field. For the first time since 1997, Chicago had an opponent failing to secure a third-down conversion.

New York head coach Aaron Glenn echoed Smith’s sentiment

“We have to do a better job of complementing each other and that did not show up today at all,” Jets coach Glenn shared.

“When you have the discrepancy of 89 plays and 32 plays, it’s something we have to look at and something we have to continue to work on. That’s the only thing we can do is continue to work.”

The 1-3 Jets will look to stop the bleeding in Week 5, as they prepare to host the red-hot Cleveland Browns.
