Lamar Jackson injury update from Ravens casts doubt on Week 5 status
The Baltimore Ravens saw quarterback Lamar Jackson exit the Week 4 game against the Tennessee Titans early with an ankle injury.
The injury occurred in the first half and Jackson emerged from the locker room in the second half but never re-entered the game.
On Monday, head coach Jesse Minter addressed the injury and said he isn’t sure what Jackson’s chances are of suiting up in Week 5.
“I don’t know the chances yet,” Minter said, per ESPN’s Jamison Hensley.
The more troubling part was Minter throwing in the fact that he doesn’t think the injury is “going to be crazy long-term.”
That seems to suggest that Jackson is in danger of missing at least some time.
Earlier in the day, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that Jackson was considered day-to-day, but he also cautioned that tests have to be done to get the full scope of what Jackson is dealing with.
“Ravens QB Lamar Jackson will have tests today, but the initial thought is day-to-day with his ankle,” Rapoport reported.
The Ravens will release their first injury report of the week on Wednesday, so we’ll have a better idea of where things stand then.
But we’ll also be on the lookout for any reports that offer an update on the severity of Jackson’s injury.
Who’s the next man up?
If Jackson can’t go against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 5, backup quarterback Tyler Huntley will take the reins of the offense until he gets back.
Huntley is an experienced backup with 31 career games (16 starts) under his belt. He filled in for Jackson as a starter in two games last season and won both.
In Week 4, Huntley completed 8-of-9 passes for 63 scoreless yards in relief of Jackson and while he didn’t score, the Ravens were able to hold off Tennessee for the win.
