PREP FOOTBALL ROUNDUP: Eagles shock Knights in duel of unbeatens; Wolves’ win sets up WRC title clash with RP
Host South Putnam got revenge for a game 364 days earlier by beating Northview 45-7 Friday night in a high school football battle between two unbeaten Western Indiana Conference teams.
The Eagles, defending Class A state champions, haven’t lost since a 48-33 decision against the Knights on Oct. 3, 2025 but jumped ahead quickly and stayed there Friday.
That makes South Putnam 7-0, 5-0 in the WIC. They play next Friday at Owen Valley. Northview, now 6-1 and 4-1, plays at Edgewood that night.
In other high school football:
• Edgewood 47, Sullivan 41 — At Sullivan, the visiting Mustangs emerged from a Western Indiana Conference shootout Friday night.
The Golden Arrows are now 3-4, 0-4 in the WIC, and play at Vincennes Lincoln next Friday. Edgewood, 4-3 and 3-2, hosts Northview.
• Parke Heritage 35, North Vermillion 20 — At Rockville, the host Wolves rushed 60 times for 307 yards and remained in contention for the Wabash River Conference championship by beating the Falcons on Friday.
Parke Heritage’s Sawyer Monik completed nine of 19 passes for 126 yards and one touchdown, with three interceptions. Teammate Leyton McMullen had six pass receptions for 94 yards and a TD. On the ground, the Wolves were led by Blake Ledcke with 15 carries for 85 yards and two touchdowns.
Now 5-2 overall, 4-1 in the WRC, Parke Heritage travels to Riverton Parke next Friday. Riverton Parke stands 7-0 overall and 5-0 in the WRC after winning by forfeit Friday against Attica, as a result of too few Red Ramblers players.
North Vermillion, 2-5 and 2-3, will host Fountain Central that night.
• South Vermillion 30, Fountain Central 22 — At Veedersburg, the visiting Wildcats moved back above the .500 mark with a Wabash River Conference win on Friday.
Ben Shryock completed 18 of 30 passes for 194 yards and rushed 13 times for 76 yards and two TDs, and Campbell Coleman had a 41-yard touchdown run for South Vermillion in the fourth quarter, which proved to be the game-winner.
Now 4-3 overall, 3-2 in conference play, South Vermillion hosts Seeger next Friday. Fountain Central, 2-5 and 2-3, will be at North Vermillion that night.
• Eastern (Greentown) 56, Linton 12 — At Linton, the Miners took an early 6-0 lead Friday on a touchdown by Braxton Moore, but the visiting Comets had a 42-point second quarter to remain unbeaten for the season.
Espn Graves threw a fourth-quarter touchdown pass to Ivan Montgomery for Linton, which fell to 0-7 and will host Eastern Greene next Friday.
Eastern (Greentown), now 7-0 and ranked sixth in Class 2A, will be at Sheridan that night.
• Wes-Del 50, North Central 26 — At Gaston, the Thunderbirds fell short Friday in a battle with Class A’s ninth-ranked team.
Now 4-3, North Central hosts Knightstown next Friday. Wes-Del, 6-0, will be at Union County that night.
• Paris 49, Olney 19 — At Paris, Ill., the host Tigers put themselves in Illinois playoff position by winning the Little Illini Conference game Friday night.
Now 5-2 overall and 3-2 in the LIC, Paris will host Robinson next Friday. Olney, 3-4 and 3-2, will host Casey that night.
• Newton 56, Robinson 14 — At Robinson, Ill., Jetson Hoalt scored two touchdowns, the first giving the host Maroons a 7-0 lead after a quarter, but the visiting Eagles dominated the rest of the Little Illini Conference game Friday.
Robinson is now 3-4, 2-3 in the LIC, and plays at Paris next Friday. Newton, 4-3 and 3-2, hosts Lawrenceville that night.
• Mt. Carmel 42, Casey 0 — At Casey, Ill., Carter Stinson passed for 72 yards and Nick Fouty rushed for 45 but the host Warriors couldn’t find the end zone in a Little Illini Conference loss.
Casey is now 3-4, 2-3 in the LIC, and plays at Olney next Friday. Mt. Carmel remained unbeaten at 7-0 and 5-0 and will host Marshall that night.
• Marshall 60, Lawrenceville 8 — At Lawrenceville, Ill., the visiting Lions waited until Saturday for their biggest scoring output of the season in Little Illini Conference play, powered by Max Welsh, who rushed 20 times for 214 yards and four touchdowns.
Lions quarterback Luke Brodie also ran for 42 yards and two touchdowns, and passed for another 54 yards, as Marshall rolled up 452 total offensive yards. Cooper Dahnke also ran eight times for 66 yards and two TDs, and Wyatt Geltz ran for one touchdown.
Improving to 3-4 overall and 2-3 in conference play, Marshall goes to Mt. Carmel next Friday while Lawrenceville will be at Newton.
• Oblong 45, Palestine-Hutsonville 14 — At Palestine, Ill., the visiting Panthers got into the win column Friday in an eight-man contest.
Now 1-5, Oblong will be at Decatur (Unity Christian) next Saturday, while the Pioneers, 0-7, will host Cerro Gordo next Friday.
