1 outrageous Falcons stat will make you look at this team differently
The Atlanta Falcons stunned the New Orleans Saints on Monday night in the Superdome, as they’ve turned a disastrous 0-2 start into a battering ram that won two primetime victories.
The team has scored 80-plus points in its last two road wins over the Green Bay Packers and New Orleans Saints, which team reporter Tori McElhaney pointed out is the first time the Falcons have done that since… December 2016.
If you’ll recall, that was the NFC title-winning team led by an MVP in Matt Ryan, a future Hall of Famer in Julio Jones and a world-class offensive mind in Kyle Shanahan. Y’know… something else happened that season, but that offense was absolutely terrifying, one of the best in NFL history. That’s outrageous.
Is this what the Falcons will look like going forward?
The last time the Falcons scored 80+ points over a two-game span? December 2016.

Quarterback Michael Penix Jr. isn’t able to ignite such a ferocious passing attack like Ryan did in his best season as a pro, but the team’s rushing attack has been just about as good in these last two games.
Running back Bijan Robinson is playing like an MVP candidate (well, at least Offensive Player of the Year), and free agent Brian Robinson Jr. has filled in to spell Robinson as a potent power option. The duo combined for a ridiculous 207 yards and five rushing touchdowns, making this the most dangerous rushing attack in the NFL right now.
Look, we’re not entirely sure if this Falcons team can reach the heights of that 2016 squad, but things are looking up for Atlanta in a meaningful way for the first time in a long time. That’s beyond celebrating if you’re a Falcons fan.
Who do the Falcons play next week?
The team plays the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday Night Football in Atlanta at 8:20 p.m. ET on NBC.
