No team made a louder move in this week’s AP Top 25 than Missouri. The Tigers jumped 11 spots to No. 14 following a 45-17 demolition of Florida. That suddenly puts Missouri squarely into the national conversation after entering the weekend at No. 25.

Florida paid the price for the other side of the result. The Gators dropped eight spots to No. 16.

Missouri forces voters to pay attention

Missouri entered the weekend needing a signature result. It got considerably more than that. The Tigers dominated Florida by 28 points, producing the kind of victory that forced voters to reevaluate where Missouri belongs nationally.

Moving 11 spots in one week is difficult at any point in the season.

Doing it in October can be particularly significant because the College Football Playoff picture is beginning to take shape.

Missouri now finds itself positioned among teams with legitimate opportunities to climb even higher. The challenge will be staying there.

Texas remains No. 1

There wasn’t nearly as much movement at the top. Texas remained No. 1 for a fourth consecutive week and received 61 of the 70 first-place votes.

Georgia remained second, followed by Notre Dame, Miami and Ohio State. Alabama moved up to No. 6, while Indiana sits seventh. Florida’s drop represented one of the week’s most significant changes, but the Gators remained in the Top 25 despite their lopsided loss.

Missouri made sure of that movement.

The Tigers didn’t climb because another team stumbled somewhere else. They beat a ranked opponent by four touchdowns. A 45-17 victory tends to get people’s attention.

Now Missouri has it.

The next challenge is proving the Tigers deserve to keep it.
