Did Jerry Jones Just Reveal Agreements Are Already Done for George Pickens and Joey Porter Jr.?
Jerry Jones may have accidentally revealed more about the Dallas Cowboys’ plans for George Pickens and Joey Porter Jr. than he intended.
Both players are in contract situations that could become major offseason storylines. Pickens is playing on the franchise tag, while Porter Jr. was acquired from the Pittsburgh Steelers in a trade despite being in the final year of his rookie deal. The Cowboys, however, made it sound as if they had already taken care of the business side.

On October 7, Jones was asked about the Cowboys’ plans for the two players. His response was notably vague; however, one part immediately stood out. Jones said the Cowboys already have “great agreements” in place concerning Pickens and Porter Jr.
“We don’t even have to in any way. We have great agreements. The agreements are in place so that I don’t even have to talk about a question like that. I’m not at all perturbed by the question but we’ve got that put to bed in terms of their business one way or the other. Now, I wouldn’t answer as to whether or not we visit about any of their business during the season other than how they’re playing or how they’re gonna play.”

Jones did not clarify whether he was referring to future contracts, existing contractual arrangements, or simply the Cowboys’ understanding with both players on how their situations will be handled. Still, the comments are particularly interesting because the Cowboys have already taken a cautious approach with Pickens.
The Cowboys acquired Pickens from the Steelers in 2025 and eventually placed the franchise tag on him after the two sides failed to reach a long-term agreement. He is now playing under a one-year, $27.3M deal, giving the Cowboys another season to evaluate the situation.
There is a similar dilemma with Porter Jr. Dallas traded for the cornerback from Pittsburgh during the season, adding another young player who is approaching the end of his rookie contract. The Cowboys have previously indicated that they were not rushing into an extension, with Porter reportedly focused on proving himself on the field first.
That makes Jones’ latest comments even more curious. If the Cowboys truly have an agreement covering the long-term futures of both players, it would remove some significant uncertainty heading into the offseason. The wide receiver is represented by David Mulugheta, and the Cowboys have already acknowledged how difficult it could be to keep him alongside CeeDee Lamb on another massive contract.
However, the cornerback situation is different; the Cowboys also surrendered valuable draft capital to acquire him. For now, though, Jones is not giving away the details.
His comments do suggest that the Cowboys believe the situations with Pickens and Porter Jr. are under control. Whether that means extensions are already agreed upon or simply that the Cowboys have a clear plan for both players remains unclear.
