Donald Trump forced to reconsider decision on Alabama-Georgia due to hurricane
President Donald Trump waves to the crowd following Spain’s victory of Argentina during the FIFA World Cup 2026 final between Argentina and Spain at New York New Jersey Stadium on Sunday, July 19, 2026, in East Rutherford, NJ.
United States President Donald Trump announced last week that he would attend this weekend’s SEC showdown between the No. 2 Georgia Bulldogs and the No. 6 Alabama Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa. However, a vicious hurricane has been building in the Gulf of Mexico, threatening Alabama with what one meteorologist described as a “nightmare” situation for the game and Trump’s appearance.
“We’ve got potential for a hurricane making landfall in Mobile Bay,” prominent Alabama meteorologist James Spann told AL.com on Tuesday. “The Alabama-Georgia game, a presidential visit, College GameDay. You got the big (Zach Bryan) concert at Auburn. This is the National Shrimp Festival at Gulf Shores this weekend, which is huge. I mean, you could not … it’s gonna be a nightmare.”
Trump learned of the building hurricane for the first time, but the White House issued a statement confirming that the president was still planning to attend the high-profile game. Upon learning about the storm, Trump said that he “hadn’t heard about a hurricane” and was “going to let the hurricane determine” whether or not he would attend Saturday’s game.
Still, the White House confirmed to Front Office Sports on Wednesday that Trump is still planning to attend the game. However, by Friday, things had changed, with the storm forcing the President to reconsider and ultimately elect not to attend the game.
“BREAKING: Tuscaloosa Police just confirmed to me that President Donald Trump will not be in attendance Saturday for Alabama-Georgia due to Hurricane Isaias,” reported Tuscaloosa Patch’s Ruyan Phillips.

The President isn’t the only one who has had to adjust due to the encroaching storm. ESPN’s College GameDay was forced to move indoors for Saturday’s show. Weather permitting, Georgia and Alabama will face each other on Saturday night on ABC from Bryant-Denny Stadium.
