Calls for Nick Sirianni’s job heat up: Is Eagles coach on hot seat?
After five weeks of the season, people are already calling for Eagles coach Nick Sirianni to be fired.
The 2-3 Eagles have lost three consecutive games and are struggling to find an identity.
After the Eagles went up 17-16 with eight seconds remaining on Sunday against the Jaguars, Sirianni instructed Jake Elliott to kick the ball in bounds on the last kickoff. Jaguars running back Ameer Abdullah returned the kick for 53 yards, setting up Cam Little’s 57-yard game-winning field goal.
Sirianni shouldered the blame for the loss, and two weeks ago, he was critical of his coaching performance in the Eagles’ loss to the Bears on “Monday Night Football.”
The calls for Sirianni’s job are growing louder.
FS1 host Colin Cowherd posted a video on his YouTube channel: “Why IT’S TIME for Philadelphia Eagles to FIRE Nick Sirianni.”
Cowherd, who has 919,000 subscribers on his YouTube channel, believes the Eagles need to move on from Sirianni after the season. He also brought up the idea of the Eagles replacing Sirianni with an interim coach during the season.
“I don’t think Nick Sirianni is really a head coach,” Cowherd said. “And I think he can work in college, maybe. … He’s not a play designer.”
Cowherd doesn’t think another NFL team would hire Sirianni as its head coach if he became available this offseason.
ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith said Sirianni is in trouble. He believes Sirianni’s players could turn on him if the coach continues to make mistakes.
Are these comments an overreaction, or does the Eagles’ poor start to the season warrant Sirianni being on the hot seat already?
Sirianni has been on the hot seat in past seasons. But every time his job security was in jeopardy, he convinced the Eagles to retain him.
The Eagles considered firing him after the 2023 season. Twelve months later, he led the franchise to its second Super Bowl title.

The Eagles won’t make a rash decision on Sirianni’s future, and given his track record of overcoming turbulent times, speculating that Sirianni will get fired is an overreaction.
Sirianni has appeared in two Super Bowls and made five playoff appearances in his first five seasons with the Eagles. He has posted a 61-29 career record through six seasons, including the first five games of 2026.
With that type of resume, Sirianni deserves a little more time to figure things out.
