Manager Dave Roberts sent Yoshinobu Yamamoto to the mound for Game 2 of the NLCS in Milwaukee, and his starter got knocked out after a two-run shot from Christian Yelich. The Dodgers aren’t looking like their usual dominant selves so far and Roberts has gotten his fair share of the blame.
Roberts spoke to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports during Game 2 during which he broke down what happened with his front line starter, one of the heroes of last year’s World Series run.
“I just think that you gotta give credit to (William) Contreras, (Jake) Bauers, those guys put together great at-bats, they were spoiling really good pitches…Yeah, you gotta give credit to them, and then he hangs a breaking ball to Yelich, and I just felt I had to stop the damage there.”

Alex Vesia, Roki Sasaki and Kris Bubic and Brock Stewart came in for Yamamoto in relief as Roberts tried to find the right combination of pitching arms to slow down the Brewers’ lineup. Bubic gave up a run in 0.2 innings of work but the Dodgers managed to tie the contest on the strength of a two-run fifth inning.
Roberts was in a mood to experiment after Game 1’s close loss as the Dodgers made a lineup change before the game that looked like it was paying off. The game continued onward as fans began to wonder whether or not the Dodgers had enough bullpen arms to continue to slow Pat Murphy’s team on an exciting playoff day in Milwaukee.
