Eagles’ Jordan Mailata reflects on team’s offensive line losses, London game collapse: ‘A week from hell’
The Philadelphia Eagles are in a tailspin. Following the sudden retirement of Lane Johnson, trade of Cam Jurgens and last-second loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars in London, Eagles players are not having a good time right now.
No one understands that more than offensive tackle — and team captain — Jordan Mailata. The seven-year veteran did not mince words when asked whether the Eagles can take anything away from Sunday’s loss, saying it’s been “a week from hell” for the team, per NBC Sports Philadelphia.
“My brain hurts. This week has been a week from hell for me. I don’t even know the concept of a moral victory right now. I’m just trying to look internally to see how I contributed to this loss so I can correct it. We weren’t good enough. We know that.”
Mailata’s comments came after two of his closest teammates — Johnson and Jurgens — left the Eagles. It also came after the team traveled hours to fly all the way to London just to lose on a literal last-second field goal.
While Mailata was frustrated with himself after he was called for a false start during the game, he hasn’t been the problem for the Eagles this season. Mailata ranks as the fifth-best offensive tackle this season, per Pro Football Focus’ metrics. He’s been a consistent positive on the Eagles since jumping into a starting role in 2020.
Though Mailata’s comments sound depressing, he offered up a simple solution for moving on, saying he would watch the film, chat with his teammates and turn the page on the week.
Things won’t get much easier for the Eagles moving forward. The team will take on the emergent Carolina Panthers in Week 6 before playing all three division opponents from Week 7 through Week 9.
Given the team’s 2-3 start, this upcoming stretch could define the team’s 2026 season. With a strong showing over the next four weeks, the Eagles should stay in the playoff hunt. But if things start to snowball, there could be many more hellish weeks on the horizon for Mailata and the Eagles moving forward.
