Brandon Figueroa misses weight, loses WBA featherweight title on the scales
Brandon Figueroa’s featherweight title reign is over without a single defense.
Figueroa missed the 126-pound championship limit by 1.4 pounds on the first attempt for his WBA championship defense against Tomoki Kameda on Saturday in Las Vegas.
Figueroa did not weigh in a second time within the permitted one-hour limit, although he unofficially tipped the scales at 126.8 pounds after the allotted time.
It is unclear whether the Figueroa-Kameda fight will still go ahead in the co-feature to Sebastian Fundora vs. Ermal Hadribeaj at The Chelsea at The Cosmopolitan.
The Fundora vs. Hadribeaj event marks the fourth in DAZN and TNT’s "The Fight" series, which attempts to showcase championship boxing to a mass audience in the United States.
Figueroa (27-2-1, 20 KOs) knocked out Nick Ball in February in Liverpool, England, to capture the belt. He is a two-weight world champion, having previously held the WBC featherweight title from 2024-2025 and the WBC super bantamweight belt in 2021.
Kameda (42-5, 23 KOs) was a world champion more than a decade ago, having held the WBO bantamweight crown from 2013 to 2014.
