MIAMI, Oct. 20 (UPI) — The Tennessee Titans cut defender Jordan Elliott on Tuesday after he allegedly brought a gun to a team facility last week, reports said.
Elliott, 28, was a third-round pick by the Cleveland Browns in the 2020 NFL Draft. He signed with the Titans in March. Elliott also played for the San Francisco 49ers.
"On Thursday, Oct. 15, there was an incident at our team facility involving Jordan Elliott," the Titans said. "Following our review of the incident, we have made the decision to release Elliott from our roster. We will have no further comment on the matter."
Fox News reported Wednesday that Elliott allegedly got into an argument with teammate J.C. Latham last week and was told to leave practice, at which point he went to his car and retrived what appeared to be a firearm. Teammates de-escalated the incident, Fox reported.
On Wednesday, Titans coach Robert Saleh called Elliott "a good man [who] had a terrible lapse in judgment that I recognize as a call for help more than a criminal act," NBC News reported. "It’s unfortunate the way it went down."
The Nashville Police Department said that it was not called and did not respond to the scene.
"The league’s firearm policy prohibits any personnel from bringing a firearm to club facilities, stadiums and team hotels and on team planes or buses," the NFL said in a statement. "The club promptly notified the league of the matter, which is under review."
Elliott totaled 11 combined tackles over five appearances this season. The seven-year veteran logged 31 combined tackles, two quarterback hits, a tackle for a loss and a pass defensed over 16 starts last season for the 49ers. He appeared in 102 games through his first seven seasons.
Solomon Thomas, Nazir Stackhouse and Jackie Marshall are among the Titans’ backup defensive tackles, behind starters Jeffery Simmons and John Franklin-Myers. Defensive tackle Timmy Horne, who is on the Titans practice squad, also was activated for Week 6.
The Titans (1-5) will host the Cleveland Browns (4-2) at 1 p.m. EDT Sunday in Nashville.
