Knicks fans name first-born son Knickson Fyve in honor of team’s NBA title run

October 22, 2026 · by SPW Pipeline

Yvonne Gonzalez-Bradford and her husband Vance already had names picked out as the couple approached the final month’s of Yvonne’s pregnancy with their first child.

Lady Victoria if the baby was a girl or Prestige Wisdom if it was a boy.

The decision seemed set, but then the New York Knicks beat the San Antonio Spurs in five games in June to win the franchise’s first NBA title in 53 years. The historic victory, coupled with the Bradfords finding out they were having a boy, altered their original choice for a name.

Yvonne came up with an alternate pick of Knickson, incorporating the name of the Long Island City family’s favorite basketball team. A few days later, an idea came up for a middle name: Fyve — as in "Knicks in five."

"You know how when something happens so well in your favor, you don’t want to jinx it?" Vance told TODAY.com. "I was just like, ‘Yep! Absolutely. That’s it!’"

It was 56 days after the Knicks’ championship win that Knickson Fyve Bradford was born on Aug. 8. He weighed 8 pounds, 8 ounces and happened to enter the world on Yvonne’s birthday. The number eight also has a significant Knicks tie as it is the number of OG Anunoby, whose last-second tip-in basket helped the team complete a 29-point comeback in Game 4 of the NBA Finals.

Another Knicks connection to the Bradford family: Vance’s mother was the scorekeeper for the 1972-73 team, which went on to win its second NBA title in four seasons.

"We wanted to have a very strong and firm name that would lead to a cool life," Vance said. "Knickson Fyve is definitely our motto. Knickson Fyve forever!"
