It was anything but a success for Pat McAfee’s first Monday Night Football alt cast, which debuted while Peyton and Eli Manning’s ManningCast was off in Week 6 during the San Francisco 49ers and the Washington Commanders game.
Sports Business Journal (via Pro Football Talk) reports that his alt cast—which aired on ESPN—only garnered 351,000 viewers. For reference, the Next Gen Stats Edition on NFL Network outclassed it with 469,000 viewers.
The ManningCast—despite its own struggles—has never dipped below 500,000 during its run. When it first started, it was surpassing one million viewers per game.

There are still five more McAfee-led alt casts planned for the rest of the year. The former NFL punter and ESPN have a few weeks to plan before the next one, which will be in Week 9 when the Minnesota Vikings play the Buffalo Bills.
Additionally, McAfee’s alt cast will air on ESPNU during the Super Bowl, while the ManningCast—which will air live from Los Angeles, California—will air on ESPN2.
McAfee is one of the most prominent faces on ESPN. He hosts his daily show, which runs for several hours every weekday, appears on College GameDay every Saturday, and is also on Monday Night Countdown before Monday Night Football.
Maybe fans are tired of seeing him all over the place. ESPN has invested heavily in him since bringing his daily show to the network.
The alt cast with McAfee was created to fill the void when the ManningCast was off. Peyton and Eli Manning are only calling 11 games this year, including Super Bowl 61. They will be on the next two weeks for the Philadelphia Eagles vs. Dallas Cowboys and Chicago Bears vs. Seattle Seahawks games.
