Saquon Barkley Linked to AFC Contender in Blockbuster Trade Proposal
Saquon Barkley is not having a good season with the Philadelphia Eagles. The team recently lost to the Carolina Panthers with a score of 25-14. They have only won twice this season, and have lost four games. They have also lost quarterback Jalen Hurts likely for the rest of the season.
Amid this situation, there are rumors regarding Barkley’s future at the franchise. One trade idea involving him has been floated.
Analyst pitches potential Saquon Barkley trade deal
Barkley has been struggling for the Eagles, as the team’s results continue to worsen. He has been playing through a hamstring injury, and has played four games. He has 36 rushing carries for 182 yards, but has zero touchdowns. Amid his poor performances, he is also being involved in trade discussions as the trade deadline approaches.

ESPN insider Ben Solak recently outlined a potential trade deal in a report that will see Barkley go to an AFC team. He suggested that the Houston Texans should trade for him. The Texans also have a 2-4 record like the Eagles. Solak wrote what the parameters of such a deal could contain. He suggested that Barkley could be traded “to the Texans for a 2027 third-round pick, a 2027 sixth-round pick, a 2028 second-round pick” as well as Texans running back Woody Marks going to the Eagles.
Despite Barkley’s recent performances, the Eagles may not want to let go of such a player. Solak suggested that Eagles general manager Howie Roseman may wish to move on from the player, as part of plans to rebuild the team. The team may be incentivized to keep him in order to help any quarterback that will arrive as a replacement to Hurts.
They may only entertain an offer from a team if its very good, and one also has to remember that the Eagles will be hit with $26.5 million in dead cap space next year. So, only some big teams could pull off such a deal realistically. Solak mentions teams like the Seattle Seahawks, the Green Bay Packers, and the Minnesota Vikings.’
However, Solak believes that the Texans should be the ones to explore signing Barkley. He wrote, “The Texans are once again on pace to have a bottom-5 rushing attack, but Barkley has the talent behind the line of scrimmage to help cover for a shaky interior offensive line group. By forcing opposing defenses to play more heavy boxes by formation and by the presence of Barkley, the 2-4 Texans could pull further defensive attention away from receiver Nico Collins and field an offense really worthy of a comeback run into the playoffs.”
The Texans will receive a veteran superstar that could elevate their offense, and the Eagles would have significant draft capital for the future, as well as a short-term replacement in Marks.
As of now, this deal is purely hypothetical and no strong reports suggest any such deal being discussed. It remains to be seen if Saquon Barkley could find himself elsewhere soon enough.
