Some Fans Will Have to Pay $891 to Watch Every NBA Game This Season as Streaming Costs Continue to Rise

It costs a lot to be an NBA superfan.

Now that the basketball league’s partnership with TNT has ended, games are being split across the dial, including NBC/Peacock to ESPN, ABC, Prime Video — as well as local sports networks.

For a true fan to watch every single nationally televised game, along with their local team’s games and other games outside of their home area, it would cost as much as $891, The Athletic deduced in a story published on Thursday, October 22.

A monthly subscription to a digital provider like YouTubeTV’s “Sports-Only” package includes access to ESPN, ABC, NBC and Peacock games — which are simulcast on the NBC Sports Network — and costs $520 for the eight-month NBA season.

Fans will also need a Peacock subscription for the 21 Tuesday night national games on that streamer, which would run $78, as well as access to Prime Video, which costs $63 for the seven months during which NBA games will air.

While some local games may be available on cable or a digital provider, The Athletic pointed out that watching some teams — like the Washington Wizards — would cost another $120 for the season. There is also a $110 League Pass to watch games outside of a fan’s area.

For those who don’t pay for cable or a multichannel digital provider, it’s actually cheaper to go “à la carte,” the outlet noted. Subscriptions to ESPN Unlimited, Peacock and Prime Video total $423 for the season. Adding on local games both locally and across the country brings the price up to $653.

Of course, fans may also need to invest in more TVs, as games are often played simultaneously. There are, for instance, five NBA games scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. EST on Friday, October 23.

For those looking to mark their calendars, The Athletic provided the broadcasters for the games on every day of the week: Mondays are on Peacock and NBC Sports Network; Tuesdays are on NBC/Peacock; Wednesdays are on ESPN; Thursdays are on Prime Video; Fridays are on Prime Video and ESPN; Saturday afternoons are on Prime Video; Saturday nights are on ESPN/ABC; Sunday afternoons are on ESPN/ABC; and Sunday nights are on ABC.
