Browns Could Make a Push for Khalil Mack as Insider Reveals Trade Deadline Outlook
The Cleveland Browns could shift their approach to the trade deadline after an unexpectedly strong start to the season. Despite entering the campaign with modest expectations, the Browns have emerged as a contender in the AFC North. That development could encourage the front office to pursue reinforcements rather than focus entirely on the future.
Longtime Browns reporter Mary Kay Cabot believes the team is more likely to buy than sell before the November 10 deadline. However, a possible move for Khalil Mack would come with important considerations. The Browns must decide whether strengthening their defense is the best way to capitalize on their promising start.

Cabot has also identified the Los Angeles Chargers linebacker Mack as a potential target, raising questions about their plans. While speaking on the 92.3 The Fan radio show, Cabot shared her expectations for the franchise’s approach to the upcoming trade deadline.
“I think they would like to be buyers in the trade market.”

Cabot also suggested that Mack could be a player worth pursuing. The veteran pass rusher would offer them additional experience and another proven presence on defense.
The Chargers’ difficult start could make the situation worth monitoring. If Los Angeles considers moving an established veteran, the Browns might have an opportunity to explore a deal. However, there is no indication that the two teams have discussed a potential trade.
Cabot floated the possibility of acquiring Mack for a fifth-round pick. That figure represents her suggested valuation, not a confirmed asking price from the Chargers. For the Browns, such a move could strengthen a defense that has helped keep the team competitive. Mack’s experience and pass-rushing ability could provide another option for a coaching staff looking to maintain its early momentum.
However, they must weigh the potential benefits against their broader roster needs. Adding a recognizable defensive player might generate excitement, but it would not automatically address the team’s biggest weaknesses.
The offense remains a particular concern. The Browns have struggled to produce consistently, placing additional pressure on their defense to keep games within reach. That imbalance could become more difficult to manage as the season progresses. Mack could still represent an attractive opportunity if the asking price proves reasonable. A veteran defender might help them maintain competitiveness without requiring the organization to surrender premium draft capital.
Note that the Browns also have additional draft resources following the Myles Garrett trade, including the Los Angeles Rams’ 2027 first-round selection. That flexibility gives Berry options, but it does not necessarily mean Cleveland should spend aggressively after an encouraging start.
The Browns must also consider whether an offensive addition would provide greater value. Ultimately, decisions on deadlines at this franchise will reveal how seriously the organization intends to pursue its unexpected opportunity. The Browns may be buyers, but identifying the right player matters more than making a trade simply because the team is winning.
