When it was announced that Jalen Hurts played through a serious blood clot, a lot of the blame instantly went to the Philadelphia Eagles and the organization’s decision-makers.
While nobody really knows what happened behind the scenes, and an investigation will determine what actually took place, it was easy to see why some people felt a certain way about it.
Allowing Hurts to play with blood clots, and also to fly, seems like a legitimate health risk. However, according to one source, cited by Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, Hurts and his team have a lot of respect for what general manager Howie Roseman did throughout that process. According to Fowler, Roseman showed a lot of thought and was hands-on during the process.
“Hurts’ team considered Eagles GM Howie Roseman, specifically, ‘exceptional’ throughout the process when it came to Hurts’ health, per source. He was ‘extremely hands-on’ throughout, ‘worried about Jalen’s health more than anything else,’ the source added,” wrote Fowler, H/T Clutch Points.
“That doesn’t mean this process was easy for the Eagles, who took public scrutiny early this week. As one source said, ‘They (Eagles) were made to look like they put his life in jeopardy, and that’s simply not the case.’”
Roseman has been in this league a long time and knows as well as anyone that situations like this are far more serious than football. While Philadelphia’s job is to win games at a high level, it also has to protect its players.
I’m curious to see what happens with the whole incident, though this is a positive sign for the Eagles and Roseman, who have shown a lot of care so far.
