Jon Gruden says Vikings should chase Kirk Cousins trade
Former Raiders head coach Jon Gruden made the pitch on The Gruden Family Football Show, in a clip posted by Barstool Sports. He believes Minnesota needs to call Las Vegas about Kirk Cousins.
He pointed to the talent around Murray, naming Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison.
“I bet they’re knocking on O’Connell’s door. Come on, man,” Gruden said.

He also noted that the Raiders are in an interesting spot and will field calls. That fits a team that used the No. 1 pick on Fernando Mendoza but has leaned on a veteran in the meantime.

Cousins, 38, gave Gruden some evidence. He threw for 313 yards and two touchdowns against the Bills in Week 6, though one interception hurt Las Vegas. The Raiders sit at 3-3.
The history helps the idea too. Cousins spent six seasons in Minnesota and earned three Pro Bowl selections there. O’Connell coached him, so the fit would not need an introduction. Recent comments from the Raiders owner about Cousins have stirred debate as well.
Still, the case for a trade starts with what Minnesota’s quarterback has and has not shown so far.
Kyler Murray is still finding his footing in Vikings
Kyler Murray signed a one-year, veteran minimum deal in free agency after the Vikings moved on from J.J. McCarthy, who was traded to the Giants in September. He missed one game with a concussion and has shared the field with Jefferson and Addison for only 18 plays this season.
Minnesota ranks 27th in total yards entering Week 7, while the defense leads the league in EPA per play. Murray’s best day came against New Orleans, where he completed 80 percent of his throws and ran for 51 yards.

Doubts about his ceiling have followed him, as one analyst’s critique of Murray’s play as the Vikings QB showed. Indianapolis, Detroit and Buffalo are next, a stretch that should show how far the offense has come.
The Vikings (5-0) face the Colts on Sunday, then Detroit and Buffalo. The Raiders (3-3) take on the Rams. Gruden has made his case, but the next few weeks will decide whether it gains traction.
