LaMelo Ball was once again one of the stars of the show as the Minnesota Timberwolves beat the Orlando Magic 115-93.
The Wolves have now gone 2-0 to kick off the new season, and the partnership between Ball and Anthony Edwards has been a sight to behold.
It’s not just their offensive play that has caught the eye, but Ball’s contribution in the opposite direction has been impressive as well. Even his own brother is surprised.
Lonzo Ball says he has never seen LaMelo defend as much as he does for the Timberwolves
The Wolves look like one of the most exciting teams in the NBA this season.
Ball and Edwards have produced incredible performances in back-to-back games, and both players have really made a difference.
Against the Orlando Magic on Friday night, Ball didn’t just show off his flashy scoring and elite court vision, but he also seems to have embraced head coach Chris Finch’s defensive-minded system in Minnesota.
That seemed to surprise his older brother Lonzo, who tweeted during the game: “This is the most I’ve ever seen Melo defend, lol. Noticing.”
Back when he played for the Charlotte Hornets, Ball was often criticised for his inconsistent effort and gamble-heavy defence.
Now, we may just be seeing an evolution of his game in Minnesota. If he can keep this defensive discipline up along with his playmaking ability, the Wolves could go all the way in the Western Conference this season.
Up next for the T-Wolves is a game against the high-flying Toronto Raptors. That will likely be Ball’s toughest test of the season yet.
