CBS Sports reveals Florida’s staggering $25 million-plus roster value

October 26, 2026 · by SPW Pipeline

Florida‘s investment into basketball now places the programs with college hoops financial elite.

According to a CBS Sports estimate, Todd Golden’s roster is valued at more than $25 million entering the 2026-27 season. An investigation by Matt Norlander and Isaac Trotter placed the Gators in the top tier of the sport’s biggest spenders, alongside Duke, Kentucky and Louisville.

The Gators’ investment centers on talent retention, rather than talent acquisition through the transfer portal. For example, AP preseason All-American Thomas Haugh is projected by CBS Sports as the highest earner for the Orange and Blue, trailed by other members of the team’s core, including the publication’s preseason Defensive Player of the Year Rueben Chinyelu and Third-Team All-SEC selection Alex Condon.

"We’re retaining talent, guys that are growing within our program," Golden told CBS Sports. Unlike others in the top tier, Florida opted to secure homegrown prospects rather than look elsewhere for upgrades.

"Last season there were only two teams believed to be operating at $20 million-plus: Kentucky and (maybe) Louisville; 2026 seriously escalated college basketball’s spending ceiling," Norlander and Trotter added. The Gators have had to amplify their spending to keep up in a rapidly shifting landscape that rewards total buy-in.

During its national championship run in 2025, Florida ranked seventh in SEC player compensation. Golden credits alumni and donor support for Florida’s increased spending power, an investment that underscores the university’s commitment to championship contention.
