Travis Kelce was a limited participant during practice ahead of the Kansas City Chiefs’ Sunday night showdown against the Seattle Seahawks. But the Chiefs tight end always looked on course to play on National Tight Ends Day.

Not only did Kelce play, but he also made history against the Seahawks. Kelce climbed up to No. 5 on the list of most receptions in NFL history. He overtook Indianapolis Colts legend Marvin Harrison with 1,103 catches.

As NFL Network and ESPN reporter Mike Garafolo pointed out on X, formerly Twitter, tight ends now make up three of the top five spots in the all-time receptions list. Tony Gonzalez and Jason Witten are the other two joining Kelce behind receivers Jerry Rice and Larry Fitzgerald.

At age 37, Travis Kelce is proving to everyone that he is not yet completely washed. He may not be putting up the brilliant numbers like he did during his prime, but he is still a key contributor on the Chiefs.

Heading into the game against the Seahawks, he had 20 catches for 299 yards and two touchdowns. He is second on the team behind Xavier Worthy in receptions, first by a wide margin in receiving yards, and tied for first in receiving touchdowns. That’s not bad for an aging tight end who has contemplated retirement for the last few seasons.

It’s also a bit of an indictment on the Chiefs that they continue to lean so heavily on a 37-year-old Kelce in the receiving game. That’s not ideal, especially if they hope to compete for a Super Bowl again.

Still, what Travis Kelce is doing is nothing short of amazing, and he deserves to be celebrated for his latest career milestone.
