Paraguayan first-division club Sportivo Ameliano is facing backlash after its new dress code sparked criticism online.
According to a report byThe US Sun published on Friday, October 23, the football club requested members of the press to avoid wearing revealing outfits at the ground “in order to maintain… the club’s institutional image.”
Female photographer Adriana Caballero, who often wears figure-hugging outfits, felt targeted by Sportivo Ameliano’s new rules, even though the guidelines applied to both men and women.

Under the dress code, members of the media are prohibited from wearing revealing clothing while on the job, including “low-cut blouses” and outfits that expose the navel.
The dress code also bars female photographers and journalists from wearing leggings in colors other than black or dark blue.
Caballero, 29, believes the ban started after a photo of her wearing a fitted outfit went viral online.
“I always want to wear the most comfortable clothes possible for my job. Sooner or later it probably had to come to this,” the photographer said, according to The US Sun.

Following the backlash on social media, Sportivo president Hector Melgarejo appeared to backtrack, saying the dress code had been issued without the club management’s approval.
“I deeply regret that this has happened. It did not leave the club, it was not institutional, but it was something that came out of the person in charge of the press without any authorization from the club,” Melgarejo said in an interview withFútbol a lo Grande on Thursday, October 22, according to LadBible.
“We are going to issue a statement institutionally where we are going to clarify that it is not what the club reflects as an institution,” he continued. “It was something that was done on its own initiative, but I don’t know, I don’t know the reason why it was done either, right? I have not yet finished the meeting here for him to explain that to me.”
