The New Orleans Saints are going through some real struggles right now, and if it weren’t for the team’s Week 6 win, there might be some very uncomfortable questions being asked, if they aren’t already.
In Week 7 against the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Saints made some brutal franchise and NFL history, and it’s all thanks to their horrible running game.
Alvin Kamara, Keandre Miller, and even Tyler Shough all couldn’t reach 10 rushing yards. As ESPN’s Katherine Terrell shared, that’s the first time that’s happened in over 30 years.

"From ESPN Research: The Saints are the first team without a 10-yard rusher in a game since the Buccaneers against the Chiefs in 2022," Terrell shared. "It’s the 3rd time in Saints’ history that the team has not had a 10-yard rusher in a game. Other times were in 1993 and 1980."
This is some horrible history for the Saints to set, as their running game was truly horrific against the Steelers in Paris in Week 7.
The new 2-5 Saints head into a bye week with quite the brutal loss lingering in their minds. It was a 16-10 defeat, and the Saints’ running game can be blamed for the loss.
Shough ran for seven yards on three carries. He was the team’s leading rusher. Miller ran for just six yards on eight attempts, while Kamara had six attempts for five yards.

On the day, the Saints ran the ball 17 times for just 18 yards, barely avoiding having fewer rushing yards than total rushing attempts.
This Saints’ running game has been a problem all season, and that was even with Travis Etienne Jr. involved. He can come back to the team in Week 9, but their running game might not get a lot better.
This is an offensive line issue, and combined with sub-par running back play, the Saints cannot get much of anything going on the ground this season.
Their Week 7 performance made NFL history not seen in four years, and Saints history not seen in 34 years. The running game is a huge issue, and this statistic is a brutal summary of how bad things just went for New Orleans in this Week 7 matchup.
