World Series Game 1 Gets Eye-Popping Local Milwaukee Ratings

October 26, 2026 · by SPW Pipeline

Early signs of World Series viewership are surprisingly strong, and the overperforming Milwaukee market is a material part of that.

Friday’s Game 1 of the Fall Classic, won by the Brewers, averaged 12.2 million viewers across English-language coverage on Fox Sports and Spanish-language coverage on Univision, sources confirmed to Front Office Sports. This is a preliminary audience number, and remains very much subject to change before final Nielsen numbers are released, likely happening late Tuesday.

Still, the 12.2 million average viewership, if it were to hold, would come close to the 13.3 million viewers who on average watched Game 1 of last year’s World Series between the Dodgers and Blue Jays. The number might even exceed it with Nielsen’s Big Data + Panel numbers added in.

A core part of the robust viewership for this year’s World Series comes from the Brewers’ home territory. Despite Milwaukee being MLB’s smallest media market, Fox Sports said it generated a whopping 33.9 rating and 70 share. The rating denotes the percentage of TV homes in a given market watching a certain program, while the share refers to the percentage of televisions in use tuned to that event.

“This was the best local number for a World Series Game 1 in seven years,” Fox president of insights and analytics Mike Mulvihill told Front Office Sports.

Despite the small-payroll World Series matchup between the Brewers and Rays, there has been optimism among MLB and Fox Sports that the event would still perform well and continue viewership momentum from earlier in the postseason. Thus far, that appears to be bearing out.

The massive fan passion of the Brewers’ faithful, meanwhile, has become a key storyline of the 2026 World Series. Game 1 at American Family Field set a World Series ticket resale record, while the Brewers also established a series of league and franchise merchandise sales milestones during the opening two games.

Sports Business Journal first reported the aggregate Game 1 viewership figure.
