Seahawks’ & Colts’ updated list of draft picks after Quenton Nelson trade

October 27, 2026 · by SPW Pipeline

The Seattle Seahawks and Indianapolis Colts have pulled off the first big trade ahead of the deadline that is just a few weeks away.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Ian Rapoport, the Colts are acquiring a 2027 third-round pick and a 2028 fifth-round pick from the Seahawks in exchange for Quenton Nelson.

“Compensation update: The Seahawks are sending a 2027 third-round pick and 2028 fifth-round round pick to the Colts in exchange for Quenton Nelson,” Schefter wrote.

This amounts to a massive addition for the Seahawks, who needed to shore up the guard spot. Not only did Seattle do that, the team did so with arguably the league’s best guard.

As for the Colts, this was the right decision with the team going nowhere in 2026 and facing a long rebuild after firing general manager Chris Ballard.

Nelson, who is set to be a free agent in 2027, was a beloved Colt, but chances are he wasn’t going to stick around for Indy hitting the reset button.

Now, a look at the updated list of draft picks for each team after the trade.

Here’s the list of confirmed draft picks the Seahawks have in 2027 and 2028, according to Spotrac:

  • 2027 draft picks: Round 1, Round 2, Round 5, Round 7 (2x, one from ATL)
  • 2028 draft picks: Round 1, Round 2, Round 3, Round 4, Round 6

On the surface, the Seahawks don’t have a ton of picks moving forward, but it’s certainly worth noting that they are projected to pick up a slew of compensatory picks.

According to Over The Cap, Seattle is projected to gain four compensatory picks in 2027, with one in the fourth round, two in the fifth round and one in the sixth round, so they are still in solid shape for next year’s draft.

Now, a look at the Colts’ confirmed draft capital for the next two years after the Nelson trade:

  • 2027 draft picks: Round 2, Round 3 (2x, one from SEA), Round 4, Round 5
  • 2028 draft picks: Round 1, Round 2, Round 3, Round 4, Round 5 (2x, one from SEA), Round 6, Round 7

The lack of a first-round pick in 2027 is a glaring issue for Indianapolis. That Sauce Gardner trade has been a total disaster for the Colts.

If Indy plans on taking part in the fire sale everyone is expecting, they are going to add to this stable soon, although it remains to be seen if the Colts can get that first-rounder back. Chances are that won’t happen.

The Colts are projected for two compensatory picks in 2027, per Over The Cap, with one coming in the fifth round and another in the sixth.
