Troy Aikman Likely Won’t Work in Cowboys Front Office ‘Regardless of What Happens’ With Jerry Jones

Troy Aikman spent 12 seasons with the Dallas Cowboys, but it seems unlikely that he’d actually return to the team in some capacity.

The former NFL quarterback, 59, was seen chatting with Cowboys owner, president and general manager Jerry Jones during Monday Night Football, when the Cowboys defeated the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday, October 26 — and their talk raised some eyebrows.

As seen in video shared on X by Cowboys reporter Joseph Hoyt, Aikman and Jones were engaged in a “lengthy conversation.”

Aikman has served as a Monday Night Football commentator for ESPN since 2022, but his deal is set to expire after Super Bowl LXI on February 14, 2027. First for Sports previously broke the news that his broadcast partner, Joe Buck, had renewed his contract with the network for six years and $108 million without telling him.

Therefore, Aikman will be a free agent, and some believe he may make his way back to the Cowboys as part of their front office.

However, Cowboys insider and former ESPN reporter Ed Werder thinks that’s unlikely.

“Troy played for GM Jerry,” Werder said on X in response to the video. “He didn’t think it went all that well. I don’t see him working in Cowboys front office — regardless of what happens in TV.”

Aikman recently addressed his broadcasting future on Mike Fisher‘s YouTube channel.

When Fisher asked Aikman if broadcasting has always been in his blood, the three-time Super Bowl champ said, “I would say it is.”

“As I’m into my last year at ESPN, I’m realizing that this is something that could very well be taken away from me,” he added. “So for the first time, I’m realizing how much I really do… I’ve always enjoyed it. I’ve always known that. But until you risk having something taken away from you, I think sometimes you tend to maybe take things for granted.”

“This is a great profession,” Aikman said. “It’s been a great ride for me, and I hope that it’s not over. Time will tell.”
