Utah football created a new verbal attacker not named BYU or anyone from the Big 12. Pat McAfee called out the Utes fan base over his treatment during Saturday’s ESPN College GameDay experience. That sparked a statement from the university on Monday.

McAfee called out Utah over what he described as a tasteless video from the university’s social media site mocking him. Plus added he felt unsafe at the campus, including bringing up the 2025 assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk in the Beehive State (at the Utah Valley University campus) for why he felt the unease.

Utah is now aiming to mend a fence with McAfee. The school released a statement Monday on McAfee’s poor experience on the Salt Lake City campus.

“Our goal during the visit was to create lighthearted engagement regarding Pat being back on campus, but we missed the mark,” the school stated. “University staff are responsible for reviewing and posting content on social media accounts and we take full responsibility for that decision.”

The statement adds that Utah has reached out to McAfee to apologize, including addressing McAfee feeling unsafe on the campus. The school concluded that McAfee and the entire GameDay crew are always welcome on campus.

McAfee called out Utah for a video depicting students doing impressions of him. Yet felt the video went off the rails.

“They put out a video, keep doing impressions of Pat McAfee. And one kid goes, ‘Oh, he’s corny.’ Another kid calls me creepy. If these kids would have done this on their own blogs, all good. I mean, everybody’s taking shots at me anyways for everything. I get it,” he said on his show.

But again, he didn’t respect the university’s account posting that video.
