Whitwell reveals who will be in charge of Man Utd’s training session on Tuesday morning
Against all odds, Monday ended with Michael Carrick maintaining his post as Manchester United’s first-team head coach.
Despite the team’s abysmal 0-3 defeat to Bournemouth on Sunday, the Old Trafford faithful showered the 45-year-old with love and support, instead venting their frustration on the players, directors, and club owners.
The consensus at the time was that Carrick would be made the scapegoat, with a Monday morning sacking looking inevitable.

While the team was given the day off, it was still an eventful Monday at Carrington. CEO Omar Berrada, Director of Football Jason Wilcox, and Head of Recruitment Christopher Vivell all arrived in the morning and spent the bulk of the day congregating.
Carrick, who wasn’t part of the discussion, arrived at the training facility in the afternoon to watch a friendly between Man Utd’s under-21 side and Hull City’s.
The head coach and the club officials left afterwards, while no decision was communicated by the club, keeping the fans guessing.
According to The Athletic’s MUFC correspondent Laurie Whitwell, Carrick is expected to take charge of the first team’s training session on Tuesday morning.
In other words, the Wallsend native will continue to perform his duties as per normal, unless the management decides to change the narrative by officially relieving him of his duties.

On Sunday evening, Carrick staying at the helm until the next game was almost unthinkable. After all, United are in desperate need of a reaction after slipping to a shocking 16th place in the Premier League table and failing to win a game in their last eight across all competitions.
Carrick, who publicly locked horns with MUFC captain Bruno Fernandes after the Como defeat, has looked like he lost the plot a long time ago.
And yet, his chances of making the weekend trip to West London are increasing with every passing hour.
Perhaps the hierarchy is simply making the required arrangements before showing the former midfielder the door. But at this stage, no scenario can be completely dismissed.
Eddie Howe is considered the big favourite to replace the under-fire manager, with Julian Nagelsmann and Antonio Conte as alternative options.
