The 49ers will be among the four teams on a bye during Week 8, meaning Christian McCaffrey, Brock Purdy, and George Kittle won’t be available for fantasy managers. That won’t help things when you also factor in all of the injuries across the NFL. Let’s highlight some of the noteworthy injuries and decide what action to take in fantasy football. For those who need reinforcements, check out our Week 8 waiver wire targets.
Fantasy Football Week 8 Injuries: Saquon Barkley, RB Philadelphia Eagles
The Eagles went into their Week 7 matchup with the Cowboys without Jalen Hurts (calf), DeVonta Smith (hamstring), and Dontayvion Wicks (ankle). Barkley took the field, but didn’t play a ton as he dealt with a back issue. He was working his way back from a hamstring injury already, but his initial comments indicate that he could still take the field for the team’s Week 8 battle with the Commanders.
Week 8 fantasy outlook: Even with Barkley only playing nine snaps against the Cowboys, he ran for 62 yards and one touchdown. If he is active against the Commanders, he is still a must start in all formats.
Fantasy Football Week 8 Injuries: Lamar Jackson, QB, Baltimore Ravens
Jackson (ankle) missed his third straight game last week. The Ravens are 1-2 without him and are in last place in the AFC North despite their 4-3 record. The good news for them is that Jackson is expected to return for a marquee matchup versus the Bills on Sunday.
Week 8 fantasy outlook: The Bills allow 28.5 points per game, leaving Jackson with top five upside at the quarterback position if he does indeed plays this week.
Fantasy Football Week 8 Injuries: Amon-Ra St. Brown, WR, Detroit Lions
St. Brown emerged from the Lion’s win over the Packers with an ankle injury. Lions head coach Dan Campbell said that his star wide receiver is expected to sit out practice Wednesday, but the team hopes that he will practice Thursday.
Week 8 fantasy outlook: Considering the Lions already have targeted Thursday for St. Brown to practice, he doesn’t seem to be in any jeopardy of sitting out Sunday in a pivotal matchup with the Vikings.
Fantasy Football Week 8 Injuries: Breece Hall, RB, New York Jets
After missing the previous three games, Hall (quadriceps) practiced on a limited basis towards the end of last week. However, he remained sidelined for the Jets’ home loss to the Dolphins. Given that Hall was already practicing in a limited fashion last week, he could return to face the Raiders on Sunday.
Week 8 fantasy outlook: The Raiders allow the third-most rushing yards per game in the league, so if Hall is cleared to return, he should be put right back into fantasy starting lineups.
Fantasy Football Week 8 Injuries: Jeremiyah Love, RB Arizona Cardinals
After seeing his workload limited to begin his NFL career, Love has missed the last two games with an ankle injury. He looks to be trending in the right direction with head coach Mike LeFleur saying that he will practice Wednesday. With him out, Tyler Allgeier and Bam Knight have split carries for Arizona.
Week 8 fantasy outlook: Even if Love returns this week, the Cardinals could limit his workload like they did before he was sidelined. That makes him nothing more than a viable flex option in most fantasy leagues.
Fantasy Football Week 8 Injuries: Ladd McConkey, WR, Los Angeles Chargers
McConkey was battling a concussion heading into the Chargers’ Week 7 bye. With the benefit of the time off, he was seen wearing a non-contact jersey during practice Monday. Even when he has been active, McConkey has been battling various injuries. The result has been him logging 30 or fewer offensive snaps in all but one game this season.
Week 8 fantasy outlook: The Chargers have been a trainwreck on offense, but the bye might have given them some time to regroup. If McConkey is cleared to return, he should still be started in all leagues because of his likely leading target share.
Fantasy Football Week 8 Injuries: Zach Charbonnet, RB, Seattle Seahawks
Charbonnet (knee) practiced with the Seahawks last week, but remained out for their matchup with the Chiefs. He is trending in the right direction, given his return to practice. Not only could he return this week, but fellow Seahawks running back Jadarian Price (chest) is expected to practice this week.
Week 8 fantasy outlook: Even if Charbonnet is cleared to play, he would likely split carries with Emanuel Wilson. If Price also returns, that would further muddy the waters. It might be wise to avoid the entirety of Seattle’s backfield for their matchup with the Bears.
