Karl-Anthony Towns led the New York Knicks to their first win of the season on Tuesday, as they beat the Detroit Pistons, 111-97, at Madison Square Garden.
Towns tallied a double-double of 27 points and 20 rebounds on top of three assists. He shot 12-of-21 from the field. While he had seven turnovers, his activity on both ends helped the Knicks snap their three-game losing skid.
In the postgame conference, coach Mike Brown gave credit to Towns and revealed that he issued a challenge to the 30-year-old center at halftime.

“KAT is a grown man. He’s obviously a perennial All-Star. I just told him the truth: ‘KAT, the guy (Paul Reed) is killing us on the glass, and when he gets a rebound, he’s putting it back, or anything he gets in the paint, he’s putting it back. If he gets on the perimeter, guard him. He did those things,” said Brown in the video posted by SNY.
“I gotta take my hat off to KAT because I thought his shift in his mindset was really big for us in the second half.”

The Knicks outscored the Pistons, 37-13, in the third quarter.
Detroit rallied in the fourth quarter, but New York, which led by as much as 27 points, had enough of a cushion to fend it off.
Towns said he did not want to disappoint the home crowd, stressing the need to give them something to cheer about after their 0-3 start.
The six-time All-Star had plenty of support, with Jalen Brunson adding 23 points and seven rebounds and OG Anunoby tallying 13 points, seven rebounds, two steals, and two blocks.
