With the Seattle Seahawks making the trade for offensive lineman Quenton Nelson from the Indianapolis Colts, the deal has brought a lot more eyes to the reigning Super Bowl champions. As the Seahawks offense led by quarterback Sam Darnold gets a boost with Nelson, Mina Kimes goes into why the trade is a win for the team.
Speaking on ESPN’s “NFL Live,” Kimes wouldn’t hold back in saying that the trade for Nelson is a “massive upgrade” for Seattle’s offensive line, as it fills a need opposite Gray Zabel.
“I love this move for Seattle,” Kimes said. “So the guard position off of opposite Grey Zabel has been probably one of the bigger problems with this team going back to the beginning of last year. Nelson is a massive upgrade, sometimes when you throw out eight Pro Bowls or those accolades, you’re talking about players who have declined? He still plays at an extremely high level, given up zero sacks this season, tremendous, and run blocking on those outside zone runs that Seattle loves, and I think it’s the ground game where you’re going to feel the impact of this first and foremost.”

Mina Kimes continues on the Seahawks’ newest addition
The 30-year-old coming to the Seahawks could lead to a “cascading” impact for the team, as Kimes puts it, giving the rushing offense a balance with a Zabel move incoming on the offensive line.
“This has been an inconsistent offense in large part because they can’t run defenses out of those two high looks. There’s also been a discrepancy between runs to the left behind Charles Cross and Grey Zabel, and then runs to the right by a full yard per carry,” Kimes said. “They’re 12th in success rate running to the left and 30th running to the right this year. So you add Quentin Nelson, kick Zabel over to the right…You can keep Sam Darnold out of third-and-longs where he struggles under pressure.”
At any rate, it remains to be seen how Nelson impacts Seattle, as their next game is on Monday night against the Chicago Bears.
