Even as NFL fans wonder about Troy Aikman’s future, Dallas media member Tom Cowlishaw has shared an update directly from the legend.

One of the more heartbreaking developments in terms of NFL media recently has been the revelation of the issues between Troy Aikman and Joe Buck. Despite their decades-long partnership, Buck reportedly signed a new ESPN contract while being okay with Aikman being potentially sidelined.

Their strained relationship has made the headlines over the past week or so. Aikman is in the final year of his ESPN deal, worth a reported $18 million annually, and will become a free agent after calling the Super Bowl in February 2027. Many have wondered what his future holds, and he’s now given fans a glimpse.

Troy Aikman says he is ’50-50′ about continuing in TV after his current deal is done

While the former 3-time Super Bowl champion has been a part of the media for well over two decades now, his options aren’t limited to another role in television. A potential NFL front-office role has also been touted as a possibility for Aikman in the future.

Apparently, the 59-year-old provided a little insight into his future during a recent book signing in Dallas. It certainly sounds as if he is keeping his options open.

“I would say there’s a 50-50 chance (he won’t do TV next year),” Aikman reportedly said at a Peter King book signing in Dallas, as per NFL journalist Tim Cowlishaw. There is no rush for the legendary quarterback to make a decision at the moment.

Much of the NFL season is still left, and he is very much going to be calling games until it ends. Even when he moves on from ESPN, other networks could jump at the chance to sign someone with his pedigree. The entire NFL world is sure to be locked in to what Aikman decides to do next.
