‘My sense is’: Shams Charania says whether he thinks Miami Heat can get Kyrie Irving

Shams Charania has suggested that the Miami Heat are one of the teams monitoring Kyrie Irving’s future at the Dallas Mavericks.

The Heat are always on the lookout for superstar-calibre talent, and when a big name like Irving enters trade speculation, it’s no surprise that they are keeping an eye on him.

However, Charania has cast doubt on a potential trade because of the Heat’s lack of resources to pull it off.

Shams Charania thinks Kyrie Irving to the Miami Heat is unlikely

The Miami Heat had to do a lot to acquire the services of Giannis Antetokounmpo from the Milwaukee Bucks during the off-season.

Tyler Herro, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kel’el Ware and Kasparas Jakucionis all went in the other direction along with multiple draft picks for the Greek superstar and Bobby Portis Jr.

While the trade looked like a massive statement from the Heat, it has left them short of resources to bring in big new players now.

That is the reason why ESPN journalist Charania believes the Heat are unlikely to land Irving, even though they are monitoring him.

He said on The Pat McAfee Show: “I’m sure, knowing the Heat, they’re going to be monitoring Kyrie Irving, but there’s going to be several teams monitoring Kyrie Irving.

“The question is, if you’re Miami, what can you give for Kyrie Irving? You already traded away three first-round picks and a swap and other assets to go get Giannis Antetokounmpo to bring to this team. So, what can you trade?

“Right now, I believe they have one first-round pick eligible to be traded. Is that enough to get Kyrie Irving? My sense is probably not. I think the price would be higher than that. So, if that’s the case, what does it look like for Miami?”

Having just one tradeable first-round pick puts the Heat at a distinct disadvantage in the case of a bidding war, which is why a deal for Irving feels so unlikely.

For now, Miami just need to focus on what they have got, get Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo firing together and start winning games.

As for Irving, it would be a shock to see him move to the Heat anytime soon.
