Retired from in-ring action earlier this year in Jan. 2026, AJ Styles was soon inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. Now, just a few months later, he is reportedly set to takeover a major role in WWE.
Done with his in-ring duties, Styles now works as a producer for several WWE NXT matches as well as a scout for talent. With Bruce Prichard reportedly looking to work remotely or retiring from the WWE main roster, NXT’s Shawn Michaels is a heavy favorite to take over that role.
With reports about Michaels’ promotion, “The Phenomenal One” is the leading candidate to eventually take over Michaels’ current role with the brand. Recently, Bryan Alvarez reported that the “most likely scenario” would be Michaels replacing Bruce Prichard, while Styles moving into Michaels’ NXT role.

Later, PWInsider reported that WWE is currently planning for Michaels to replace Prichard as Executive Director after WrestleMania 43. And, with Michaels moving up, someone would be required to fill in his position.
False Finish also reported that people within the WWE Performance Center expect Styles to be more active within the brand. “Those within the WWE Performance Center expect AJ Styles to be more hands-on within NXT as a result of Shawn Michaels’ promotion,” False Finish reported on social media.
With still time left for WWE WrestleMania 43, there are currently no confirmations about AJ Styles or Shawn Michaels’ new role. While Styles has now retired from wrestling, his son, Avery Styles, recently joined the TNA roster and is now in line for a tag team title shot with his partner, Frankie Kazarian.
