Coming together for Remembrance
Coming together for Remembrance
This weekend marks the start of the Club’s Remembrance activities as we take time to honour those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.
Remembrance can take many forms, and throughout the coming weeks every part of the Club, from our Men’s, Women’s and Academy teams to City in the Community (CITC), will come together to honour the Armed Forces in a number of different ways, reflecting the many ways people choose to remember and show their respect.
The Club’s Remembrance programme will begin on Saturday at the men’s first team fixture against Brighton.
Before kick-off, 11 military veterans from City in the Community’s programme will undertake an inspiring 40 kilometres triathlon challenge, building on the success of their recent fundraising efforts.
This year’s triathlon showcases the remarkable commitment and resilience of our veterans, who will push themselves to complete a 40k run, 40k row and 40k cycle. Following the challenge, they will join the stadium’s pre-match Remembrance ceremony alongside supporters, players and staff.
The challenge aims to raise £1,986, marking City in the Community’s 40th anniversary whilst supporting Remembrance through the incredible efforts of the veterans taking part. Funds raised will support City in the Community’s ongoing work across local communities, empowering healthier lives through football.

On the pitch, Manager Enzo Maresca will also lay a wreath, followed by the playing of the Last Post.
The Women’s Super League fixture against West Ham on 7 November will follow a similar tribute, with manager Andrée Jeglertz laying a wreath ahead of the match.
Both occasions will be marked by a minute’s silence, as supporters, players and staff come together to reflect, remember and pay their respects.
These moments provide an opportunity for the city family to pause and honour those who made the ultimate sacrifice, while recognising the service and dedication of all who have served in the Armed Forces.
For all league matches during the throughout the Remembrance period, our Men’s and Women’s first team players will wear a poppy on their shirts as a mark of respect.
The shirts worn during these fixtures will then be donated and auctioned via MatchWornShirt, with proceeds supporting the Royal British Legion, which provides lifelong support to serving and former members of the Armed Forces community and their families.
Our Academy Teams will also take the time to reflect during the Remembrance period, and earlier in month, our Under-12s team hosted Manchester United at the City Football Academy to take part in the annual Christmas Truce fixture, held in place of the clubs’ traditional Remembrance match and recognising the values of respect and unity that sit at the heart of remembrance.
