Colts now ‘open’ to Jonathan Taylor trade with multiple teams in contact. Are Vikings among them?
After insisting he’s not for sale for several days, the Indianapolis Colts are reportedly now willing to part with star running back Jonathan Taylor, a player with whom the Minnesota Vikings have been linked.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter and NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Saturday morning that the Colts are now open to trading Taylor, and that “multiple teams have reached out to Indianapolis.”
“Those talks are said to be active and ongoing, according to sources,” Schefter adds.
Speculation has been rife over the past week that running back is one of the areas the Minnesota Vikings could look to for a trade in an effort to boost their stuttering offense, and Taylor would be a star addition that adds a whole new dimension to the attack.
The ESPN report cites the Vikings as one of five teams that are thought to have expressed some interest in Taylor, with the others being the Denver Broncos, Green Bay Packers, Seattle Seahawks, and the New York Giants.
But there have also been rumblings that the Vikings are not willing to part with significant draft assets for the position, with NFL insider Tom Pelissero identifying running back as a need, but said fans shouldn’t hold their breath for a trade bringing in the likes of Taylor or Saquon Barkley.
The buzz on Friday was that Vikings GM Nolan Teasley has been “working the phones like a madman,” suggesting the Vikings are very much trying to make something happen to boost their 6-0 team.
However, SI’s Albert Breer said interior offensive and defensive linemen were also areas where the Vikings are looking to strengthen, so it remains to be seen how much draft capital the Vikings are willing to give up.
It’s been thought this week that the Colts were looking for a first-round pick for Taylor, something the Vikings almost certainly wouldn’t part with given they may very well need a quarterback come the end of the season. Breer on Saturday said that the Colts will be looking for a “significant haul” for Taylor.
